Welcome to Time-Zone Labs

Time-Zone Labs is a fictional company that specializes in the research of temporal displacement - time travel. The company was created and founded by the late Kelly J. Nolte in the mid-late 1980's. Kelly passed away from dementia in 2008.

Kelly created a wonderful universe where scientists and regular people zip through time, trying to fill in the blanks in historic events. Stories that are multi-layered with many fun and likeable characters, his family tried over and over to get him to submit them for publishing.

The problem? Kelly always was a bit of an odd duck. Believe it or not, he was afraid of making or having a lot of money.  He just knew the government or some other robber would take it away from him. And he had the fear that some publishing company would take the rights to his stories and characters. He was paranoid, which probably means he had dementia a lot longer than we knew.

In the early 1990's, pre-Internet, together, Kelly and I tried publishing a fan fiction newsletter. We got out about 8 issues - one every other month - before we got discouraged. In the future, I will scan these newsletters to share here.

In 1996, the computer Kelly worked on was stolen from his house.  He was devastated.  Most everything he had worked on was on that computer.  He tried recreating many of the stories, but basically what is left is a list of plots and characters. It is my belief that he became depressed, which could have contributed to his dementia.

I have some documents from 5 1/4" and 3 1/2" floppy drives, and back when I had those kinds of drives, and tried to extract them, I found that even though Kelly had the earliest versions of MS Word available to him, he was using some other early word processing software that to date, I have not been able to import. This was another example of his paranoia - he was afraid the larger company, Microsoft, would be able to steal his work.

Since that time, I have been looking for would-be authors who might be interested in helping me re-create the stories. Anyone interested can contact me through the "Talk to the Librarian" link at the right on this page.

Thankfully, I did have printed copies of a few things.  One of them is the story I will be sharing here - Casefiles of the CIA (Coconolte Investigation Agency) #320 - The Affair of the Temporal Extortionist.  I will post an "Episode" (as Kelly liked to call them) every two weeks.

I was able to get the book set up through Amazon's self-publishing and had it for sale from early 2009 up until three months ago (April 2019). I have removed it to update it, but will announce when it is once again available, which shouldn't be too long from now. (For anyone that doesn't want to wait to finish the story episode by episode. 😘 ) Please note: a portion of all proceeds from the sale of books or anything else we sell in the future will be donated to dementia research.

Please take a moment to visit the Remembering Kelly page to get a glimpse of what he was like. Get a bit of T-ZL history with an old letter written by Willver Coconolte on the The Beginning page. And please, enjoy the gumshoe Coconolte Brothers you will meet in CIA #320.

Thanks for coming by. I hope you will join the "Zoner" family.
